Matthew Malamet M.D., F.A.C.S., a native of the Bay Area and proud alumnus of U.C. Berkeley, is a double board certified, fellowship trained Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgeon serving the Los Angeles, California area. He is one of a select few fully trained Plastic Surgeons in the United States who have undergone additional formal post-graduate fellowship training in Aesthetic Surgery. Dr. Malamet is an Active Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), an Active Member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His practice specializes in all areas of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, focusing on surgery of the Face, Breast and Body.
Having completed the prestigious Aesthetic Surgery fellowship at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital (MEETH) under the tutelage of Dr. Sherrell Aston, Dr. Malamet has been trained in the most advanced Aesthetic Surgical techniques of the Face, Nose, Breast and Body. His other mentors included internationally renowned Plastic Surgeons such as Dr. Alan Matarasso, Dr. Daniel Baker, Dr. Nicolas Tabbal, Dr. Gerald Pitman and Dr. Jennifer Walden, amongst many other highly respected figures. During the year-long fellowship, Dr. Malamet had the privilege of teaching and supervising the Senior Plastic Surgery residents from NYU and Cornell universities.
Prior to his matriculation at MEETH, Dr. Malamet completed a formal Plastic Surgery Residency at Albany Medical College in upstate New York. This is one of the original Plastic Surgical Residencies in the country, established in 1949 by one of the pioneers in the field, Dr. W. Brandon Macomber. It was here that Dr. Malamet was trained in all aspects of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Including but not limited to Breast Reconstruction, Post Bariatric Body Contouring, Hand Surgery, Trunk and Lower Extremity Reconstruction, Burn Reconstruction, Facial Trauma and Pediatric Plastic Surgery. During his final year of Plastic Surgery Residency, Dr. Malamet had the honor of being the Administrative Chief Resident, administering the day-to-day function of the Plastic Surgical Residents and Albany Medical College medical students. These achievements culminated in becoming BOARD CERTIFIED by The American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) in 2013.
Forming the surgical foundation for his future Plastic Surgical Endeavors, Dr. Malamet completed a rigorous five year General Surgery Residency at Providence Hospital/Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. This is routinely in the Top 25% of all Major Teaching Hospitals in the country. During this time, Dr. Malamet consistently scored in the Top 10% of all Surgical Residents in the United States on the annual American Board of Surgery In-Training Exam and was bestowed with the honor of being the Administrative Chief Resident in his final year of training. These achievements culminated in becoming BOARD CERTIFIED by The American Board of Surgery (ABS) in 2009.
A native of the Bay Area, Dr. Malamet graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of California at Berkeley. With the initial goal of becoming a college Professor, he then pursued and achieved a graduate degree in Exercise Physiology from California State University East Bay.
Humanitarian efforts have recently taken Dr. Malamet to San Pedro de Macoris in the Dominican Republic as a part of Albany Plasticare International. At Hospital Regional Dr. Antonio Musa, he and other Plastic Surgeons surgically treated patients with a wide array of disease processes ranging from severe burn contractures and Syndactyly to Cleft Lips and Palates.
Dr. Malamet and his wife are truly excited to be back in California.
